I teach first graders at a magnet school within a large, urban school district. My students are full of wonder and excitement, and they are ready to learn new things every day.
We focus on hands-on inquiry-based learning, and we are an International Baccalaureate school.
Students are excited about coming to school and are actively engaged every day. They have the courage to share their strengths and don’t hesitate to ask for help. Students are reflective, inquisitive learners who take ownership of their learning. They love to learn about the world in our inquiry-based environment!
My Project
As a component of our 1st grade classes' math block, I use math centers to support students in practicing new skills and reviewing old skills at their various levels. Students work individually or in small groups to practice fluency, problem solving, inspecting equations, and the current day's lesson.
The manipulatives from this project would provide more opportunities to differentiate math centers and support student's individual math needs in my classroom.
Engaging and appropriately challenging math activities help students stay focused on a task for extended periods of time. When students are concentrated on their work, it allows me to facilitate small groups uninterrupted.
