Help me give my students three Chromebooks that will help them benefit daily form the digital tutorial programs that the School District has provided them with to support their math, reading, and language instruction.
Our school serves students in grades K-8 and has been consistently performing among the top scoring schools in the state. Our kindergarten class is composed of an average of thirty-six five and six-year-old students that come from a multitude of foreign countries. Our students speak English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Uzbek, among other languages. Many of them are on free or reduced lunch and enter Kindergarten with very little or no English knowledge at all. Despite their linguistic and economic limitations, they are ready to learn and eager to explore.
My students are in great need of differentiated instruction because they are being asked to not only learn a new language, but also to master the art of reading, writing, and problem-solving in this new language within the same school year.
Delivering instruction in smaller groups and being able to access District provided digital language, literacy and math programs with consistency, can help them speed their language acquisition and continue with their cognitive growth in a developmentally appropriate way.
My Project
The three Chromebooks will allow students to receive individualized instruction. Our goal is to break up the class into small groups and make sure that the students not working with the teacher are also benefiting from valuable learning experiences as they interact with the digital resources that support our curriculum. The children will use the Chromebooks to practice skills taught and gain new knowledge in a developmentally appropriate and appealing way.
While some of the students are engaged in digital learning, we will be able to teach, re-teach, and enrich other students in small groups that target their specific needs.
