Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching is difficult. Teaching really well is profoundly difficult. And yet, for me, the work of teaching is also nourishing. It grows as I we teachers grow the young people in our care. Each success is instructive. Each failure is instructive. I am challenged to become the best version of me as I challenge my students to become their best as well.
One classroom reality that taxes my capacity to teach as I need and want to teach is the great variety of learners who surround me every day.
My students come with an array of challenges: physical, cognitive, emotional, and economic. Some represent other cultures and speak another language more confidently than they speak English. Many of my students bring with them to school stresses from home that are too great for young shoulders to carry. I hope that my example will empower them to change their own believe.
I believe that my students, and children in general, have the power to achieve anything, as long as they are willing to work for it. My job as teacher is to foster in my students the authentic believe that they are the masters of their own destiny.
My Project
Students become empowered when given choice in the classroom. All students have unique learning styles and preferences when it comes to working spots.
Flexible seating in my classroom will create a more comfortable environment that will help my students be their best learning selves.
It also will give students sense of ownership and will enables them to become invested in their own education.
If we truly want to prepare our students for the real world, we need to put them in responsive, dynamic environments that reflect life outside of a traditional classroom. And what does this look like? Full of choices, where adults are responsible for their own learning.
