Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a Title I school in Jersey City. They have low parental support and do not come to school with the basic supplies needed to succeed. They receive free breakfast and lunch each day. They deal with many challenges before their school day even begins, and still come into the classroom with a smile on their face. As high-risk students, they rely on the comfortable classroom environment we create to feel secure while they learn and grow.
I love how they encourage each other to learn, so that they may reach their full potential.
They are eager to learn and willing to forget about their hardships to better themselves. Our goal is to create a classroom of lifelong learners.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to find comfortable positions throughout the classroom. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. It also encourages them to take turns in different locations and with different seating options. When students are uncomfortable, they are distracted and unproductive.
This year I have had wobble chairs and cushions funded and I can see the difference.
The children use them when going on the iPads, just working at their seats, and even on the rug. They are excited about learning and choose which way works best for their learning style for the day. We are excited, and hope that these will be funded too!
