Help me give my students wobble cushions, balance ball seats, and clipboards to provide options in seating in order to create more engagement and motivation in the classroom!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a rural, poverty-stricken area in southwest Georgia. Teaching two different blocks of students, I have 45 students total, twenty of which are identified as gifted learners. Both of my classes are full of creativity, enthusiasm, and energy. They are not your average students. They are curious and learn in a variety of different ways. Many are hands-on learners, while others are verbal or auditory learners. Regardless, all of my students require differentiation and an engaging environment to keep up with their out of the box thinking.
My Project
My students are all unique, and they all learn in different ways. While some students are fine with traditional seating in desks or tables, many prefer sitting on the floor or sitting on something that allows some form of movement.
Flexible seating would allow for students to choose their seating options and become more motivated and involved in their own learning.
By providing my students with wobble chairs and clipboards some students could do all their work seated on the floor without distracting others.
Additionally, the balance ball seats would allow those students who need extra movement to have a seat that keeps them level with their table mates while being able to move around a bit.
These options will give the ability to move without being a disruption. Also, by giving my students a choice in their seating, hopefully, their engagement level will increase. Studies have proven that engagement is directly correlated to student achievement.
