This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our middle school is a Title I school and many of the students come from low income families. At our school, 98% of students receive free or reduced price meals. Over 30% of our students receive special education services and many others function well below grade level. The total enrollment is just over 350 students. Our Low Incidence students have multiple disabilities that impedes their ability to fully participate in the general education setting. We are transitioning back to a full virtual learning platform.
As our school transitions into virtual learning it is imperative that teachers and students have what they need to accomplish the tasks associated with remote learning and continued growth in academics and social emotional learning.
My Project
My students have a variety of disabilities to deal with. Many have difficulty doing any task without the support of an adult. Others have Autism and are distracted by the dual screens needed for online, one computer formats require. By having chart paper available at home to replace my whiteboard, I can still show my students the examples they need to see without splitting my screen. With the added math manipulatives I can see that each student has access to what they need to accomplish the tasks asked of them and see them manipulate items as they solve problems.
