This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from inner-city Kansas City, MO, where it's hard to come by any classroom supplies since our school is 100% free/reduce lunch. My kiddos love being able to use classroom computers to research and listen to books! They are all very hard working and deserve to have the same resources other students have access to.
Most of my students, unfortunately, do not have access to headphones at home either, though, they still love using their computer even if they are unable to use headphones.
They are fearless children and dive into using technology on a daily basis to help them learn.
My Project
Second Graders are still learning to read, and a big part of that is listening to others read. Unfortunately, most of the students in my class do not have anyone to read to them.
Having a class set of quality headphones would help bridge the gap for my students being able to listen to others read to them.
My students would also be able to document complete projects or work and listen to each other talk about their project. My students would have so much joy being able to listen to stories and complete computer programs to help them become better at typing and to help them become better readers. Having something as simple as headphones will enrich their learning by great lengths.
