This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
At our school, we have an amazing group of students ages 4-5 years old in a pre-kindergarten classroom. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I see that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. They come into our classrooms every day, eager to learn, ready to take on new and challenging tasks, and excited for what is in store. My students are eager to learn and enjoy reading, math, and hands-on projects. I want them to feel safe and know they can accomplish anything if they apply themselves. I will have the opportunity to bond with my students and learn all of their many personalities. These items will allow them to be creative in their own way and learn how to express themselves through creativity.
My Project
Children learn in all different ways. They need different types of materials to learn to communicate with friends and teachers and materials to learn ABC's and 123's.
New friendships can be sparked over sand and water.
The sensory aspects the sand and water table provide allow students to explore but also talk about the things they are exploring and may help children who do not talk a lot.
Literacy of course is important in pre-school. Different materials are needed because children need different things to succeed academically. All of the materials in this project will allow students to grow educationally.
