I teach Kindergarten in an all day inner city public school. My students love to learn, but also enjoy having fun while doing it. We do not have very much time for recess, so I try to make my educational lessons exciting for the children.
My students come from many different backgrounds, family situations and life stories.
Our school has over 85% of the schoolchildren receiving free lunch and many need help with uniform assistance. The one thing that all the children have in common is their eagerness to explore and learn.
My Project
I would like to give my students PlayDoh and some PlayDoh kits to practice writing their letters, words, and numbers. I think this would be a great learning center and they would love using the PlayDoh! It would also help with fine motor skills and help build the little muscles in their hands. I would also like to have a learning center with Scholastic magazines at their age level for them to read and share with their families.
PlayDoh and the Scholastic magazines are things that the children may not get a chance to use or explore if I am not able to provide them the opportunities at school.
The children really enjoy the little extra things that help make Kindergarten fun!
