Help me give my students hardcover dictionaries that are new and durable for daily and weekly use. This is a readiness skill our students need to monitor learning while developing research skills.
My students love to know what we are doing in English Language Arts. Many of them say it is their favorite class. We spend time daily covering learning standards that will make them successful in the real world. I challenge them to know what they think about the texts we read in class, and how they were able to reach conclusions. Using a dictionary is a life long skill students will use. Helping them learn how to use a traditional printed copy is one of my goals.
Helping my students succeed is not only a professional goal, but a personal one as well, I meet each student where they are in their learning journey and take them further down their own individual pathways!
We need solid resources to help us research and find answers when we do not know them yet. I am asking for dictionaries for us this year, since they are able to use them during reading tests to monitor comprehension when they come across a word they do not know. Currently, the copies I have have not held up, and I am looking for hardcover replacements to help all of our sixth graders be successful.
My Project
You might be tempted to toss out that set of dictionaries on your bookshelf, but don't do it! In the digital age, technology such as smartphones and tablets have made learning easier than ever before. Still, not everyone has access to these tools and students may or may not have access at home, but it is impossible to know. Because of this, it is valuable to teach students to use both print dictionaries and online dictionaries.
Our students crave to learn how to use printed resources, we just need to provide the proper tools to create this optimal learning environment for them.
Students are able to use dictionaries in the classroom to assist in learning about a word they do not know. Dictionaries teach many necessary skills to learn English. My goal is to provide each student with a hardcover copy that is suited for their age group. I hope you can help me provide this necessary and valuable resource for all my students on our campus.
