Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am currently a kindergarten teacher, and I teach all subjects. I teach in an inner city school in Far Rockaway, Queens, where 95% of the students receive free lunch. As educators, we must use any and all methods in order for our students to be successful. However, due to lack of funding, this is not always possible. Now that my kindergarteners are beginning to sound out words, read and write, I would like to introduce them to dictionaries. They will use the dictionaries as an additional resource for finding new words. As a former first grade teacher, I understand the importance of providing students with the necessary skills for success. These picture dictionaries will not only help students recognize new words but will be an added assistance in their writing. Once students learn dictionary skills, they will use them for a lifetime. I am asking for a class set of 30 Kingfisher first dictionaries. Thank you for helping my young students take their next step in learning.
