Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each student in my Fourth Grade English Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies classroom desperately wants and needs an illustrated Children's Dictionary to keep in our classroom. Their minds are hungry for the vocabulary and diagrams that will prepare them for their careers.
How frustrating it has been for them to search for words in the tattered, old paperbacks that we have and never find the meaning!
The vocabulary spectrum is too limited. The verbiage is outdated and inaccessible. Our future professionals need quality support and preparation.
My Project
Can you imagine your future doctor or the doctor of your children trying to learn about the systems in the body with only written descriptions in outdated terms? Can you imagine the future teachers of your grandchildren trying to learn grammar, mathematics, and science concepts without accurate definitions in their resources to guide them? Can you imagine our future law enforcement officers with spelling abilities and vocabularies that were stunted by lack of adequate resources?
It's unthinkable, yet this is the risk we are currently facing.
You can help make all of our futures brighter! Please buy our class an illustrated new dictionary for each desk.
