Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love my students because they are not only kind and hardworking students, but they are also supportive of each other.
These students try their best every day, even with the challenges they face; they do not give up and they want to succeed.
As an ESOL teacher I am fortunate, because I get to work in different grade levels, with different students and teachers all day long. Our school is a Title 1 school, with over 75% of our students being classified as Economically Disadvantaged and 55% are ESOL.
My Project
Vocabulary is one of the most important things students learn in school. From everyday words to content specific words students are learning new words daily. This is especially true for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students.
Our ESOL students need good student dictionaries to help them learn.
In a good dictionary, students can:
* look up the meaning of a word that they see or hear (including if it has more than one meaning),
* check the spelling of a word,
* find a word's part of speech,
* a word’s pronunciation
* find a word’s different forms
My students have older dictionaries that they have been using, but need better dictionaries to help them learn and grow as readers, writers, speakers, and listeners of the English language.
