I am the librarian for my school. Our students are eager to learn and love coming to school every day. We work daily on reaching our academic goals as well as becoming responsible citizens who promote kindness and make the world a better place.
An important part of being able to use the resources in the library is learning how to navigate in the library in order to find books and information of interest.
My goal for this project is to purchase plastic book bins that will be used within the book shelves to post marker signs for the Dewey Decimal System. Students will use these signs to find books by number but also by topics that are of their interest.
We are a Title 1 school so my students come from various backgrounds. I am striving to make the library a welcoming learning and community environment where all students can find things to interest them, which includes books as well as a variety of other activities and materials. Over the past few years, we have transformed our library and small projects like this help us continue in these efforts and really make a difference!
My Project
The book boxes requested will be used in the nonfiction section of our library. The Dewey Decimal numbers with interest pictures will be posted on these boxes within the shelves to help students locate books not only by number but also by topics of interest. The Dewey Decimal numbers/pictures are something that I have purchased from Teachers Pay Teachers and are just waiting for these boxes to be attached to so that we can transform our nonfiction section. Students love learning how to locate books in our library and this project will help them navigate our nonfiction section with ease!
