Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hungry for the opportunity to explore the world around them. A sensory table gives children the chance to explore, experiment, observe, and manipulate while increasing their fine and gross motor, hand eye coordination, math, science and communication skills.
My students are wonderful individuals who unfortunately must work twice as hard as their typical peers to learn and live their lives independently.
My students are 3 to 5 years old and are currently in an Early Childhood Special Education Program. They have been diagnosed with disabilities including Autism, learning disabilities, and speech and language delays. Some of my students are non-verbal and use pictures to communicate their needs. They are all beautiful and unique in their own special way.
My Project
Children learn best and retain the most information when they engage their senses. My students would have the opportunity to work on their fine motor skills like their eye-hand coordination when pouring, molding, lifting and carrying. They will work on their emotional development by releasing tension, soothing them and relaxing them when manipulating the materials. It will build self-confidence and a positive self-image as they create, play and accomplish what they had intended to do. My students would have the opportunity to interact with each other, they will learn to share and cooperate while building their vocabulary. They will have the opportunity to experiment, engineer, and have fun!
A sensory table would help develop and cultivate skills through sensory play.
It will help increase my students over all learning, social skills, as well as their language. What fun would my students have on a daily basis with a new sensory table and ironing table for our dramatic play center.
