Developing the Next Generation of Writers

Help me give my students the tools to be successful writers- 50 primary journals (2 per student for the year), pencils and a pencil sharpener. Daily writing will also strengthen their reading skills!

My Students

Through the eyes of a first grader, the world is a new, exciting place to be explored. My students are no exception. They enter the classroom each day with enthusiasm to learn new things. They come from a variety of backgrounds and abilities. Each child is already making progress in reading, writing, and math.

In our school, we believe all students can achieve and meet high standards.

We have a daily hour and a half of small group instructional time to work at students' individual levels. The goal is to get all students on grade level within three years.

My Project

Writing is a fundamental skill that all first graders must learn to be successful throughout their school years and life. We will use these journals to write about daily experiences and write responses to literature. The more children write, the better writers they become. In addition, research shows that as students write the sounds they hear in words, their phonemic awareness and phonic skills improve. These are critical skills when learning how to read.

Students will be motivated to write when using these professionally made journals.

Because the writing pages are bound and not lose paper, their writing stays organized. Parents are sure to keep these completed journals for years to come!
