My Students

I love the resiliency in my students. I work with students in K-9th at a Charter School. We focus on the strengths of the students by helping them pursue their talents. I work with students who especially struggle with things such as behavior, motor skills, handwriting and other issues. We began a project this year to implement a “motor lab” for our students through the “Ready Bodies, Learning Minds” program. It will help my students in so many ways including academic, social, emotional, motor, etc. I was given a very small budget so my resources are limited. Many of my students struggle with outside family and personal issues and knowing what they go through on a daily basis just breaks my heart. I want to help them feel a sense of belonging at our school. Their resiliency impresses me but everyone has a breaking point. They are amazing young people with bright futures if they have the support of adults in their lives. I believe programs such as this make a lasting impression on kids that will last a lifetime.

My Project

Our school began a project called "Ready Bodies, Learning Minds". We have purchased limited supplies using the given budget, however, I need more supplies to help our 'Motor Lab' be successful. The motor lab's goals are to:

-Develop the skills necessary for learning readiness and mastery of the environment.

-Improve the ability to function in the environment leading to better performance in handwriting, sitting still, paying attention, speaking, and behavior.

-Stimulate the sensory systems.

-Ability to better accomplish tasks by making children aware of their environment and learning about the sensations of their own movement.

-Create a base for the skill-building of physical education.

-Build a structure for the acquisition of academic skills.
