Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students and their families are dedicated and focused on their learning during this coronavirus pandemic. Many of my students have a individualized educational learning plan secondary to a diagnosis and a need for additional support. Additionally, the families I work with are resilient in many learning obstacles faced such as having a primary language that is not English.
During the coronavirus pandemic, many of my students have been affected in their ability to grow other skill sets much needed to their development like social communication.
Many of my students only interact with students at school. This is placing a burden on parents as many of them do not feel equip to grow this area of need for their children at home.
During this time, I and many other providers and teachers have stepped out of the box by buying our own material that we know will benefit our families during distance learning. However, many of the material can be costly. Amidst this time, we ask for support in acquiring the material that can really support our families and our kids during this time.
My Project
I will be using these materials in my distance learning weekly lessons. Social skills and emotional regulation are very important during this time where emotions are high and social engagement is limited due to social distancing.
With this material, my students will be able to watch a recorded video of the social skills book, while in their home.
The social skills books will then be followed by an activity that they will do with their families focused on their emotional wellness. Follow-up will be made by the speech language pathologist through video call to reinforce learning and generalization of skills taught.
