This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The best way that my students will learn to speak and read is by listening to model reading of phrasing, fluency and exposure to a variety of story structures without the distraction of other surrounding sounds.

My students are new comers from another country and struggling readers that come to the learning center on a daily basis to receive extra support in language development and reading.

Although they struggle to read independently, they enjoy read-alouds and shared readings where they are able to engage in rich discussions that lead towards making connection, partner sharing, retelling stories or sharing newly learned knowledge with their peers through different collaborative groups.

My Project

One of the programs that I use to help students learn to read requires a listening center. Currently, we do not have headphones so I just play the CDs from our computer; Students try to listen and follow along as best as possible but they struggle to follow along due to other sounds that interfere with clarity of the read aloud. The headphones that I am requesting will ensure that students can listen clearly and develop appropriate reading skills.

Your donations will allow my students to hear and see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way.

It will help them focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provide them with a model of fluent reading.
