My students live in a rural community of about 2,000 residents. They may not realize it, yet, but they are growing and learning in a very supportive and tight-knit community that cares about each of them.
In my classroom, I have 20 kindergartners of varying social, emotional, and academic needs.
They are creative, clever, and spontaneous! They have so much excitement for school and learning; it makes my job so enjoyable! My students are unique individuals with unlimited potential. It is my job to ignite their excitement for learning so they can reach their full potential!
My Project
Learning to read is a complex process that we spend a great amount of time on in kindergarten. We are looking to get decodable readers for our kindergarten classroom. Decodable readers are books that contain mostly words that the kids can sound out along with some sight words. This allows students to practice sounding out words and encourages them to apply the phonics strategies they are learning in books. The most current research on learning to read shows the importance of using decodable texts with beginning readers. The decodable readers will be used during small group reading instruction in our classroom. Each student in the small group will get their own book to practice reading. These books will help students learn to sound out words and apply what they are learning in phonics instruction.
Our classroom is in need of a variety of decodable readers to engage students while allowing them to practice essential reading skills.
Decodable books are an important part of the learning process. Thank you for helping us become outstanding readers!
