As an adult we often take for granted how we learned to read. What now seems to come second nature to us is a constant struggle from some. For my elementary students, this somewhat natural task is a struggle for them to master. My 3rd grade students are reading well below grade level
I have a wonderful class of 16 students.
My class is made up of Caucasian, African American and Hispanic Students. We are located in a Title One school, with the majority of my students on free or reduced lunch.
While I have a very diverse class, my students all share one common characteristic. They are all reading below the third grade level. Based on our beginning of the year assessments, my class is reading at a 1st grade level. With the new legislation requiring students pass the 3rd grade EOG to move up to 4th grade, we need all the help and extra materials we can get to help our class achieve success.
My Project
We have requested a variety of materials that will be used to help our students achieve in the classroom. We selected two activities that will help both the teacher and instructional assistant target gaps and misunderstandings that will ensure student growth through hands-on reading and response activities. We chose several interactive SMART Board and center activities that the students will be able to practice the foundational skills required to help them prepare for grade level material. With these selected materials our students will be able to learn, practice and engage in skills and activities that will help them increase their reading levels and level of comprehension. What our students learn this year with these materials will help them become successful life long readers!
By funding my project, you are taking a small step toward improving the future of these children .
With these materials we will be able to ensure that our students are equipped with the proper tools and strategies required to be successful in all academic areas. I hope that you will consider donating to our cause because with your help we will reach a group of students that are desperate to achieve and willing to put in the hard work required to be the scholars they were destined to be.
