My students need LEGO brick sets to help foster their ability to incorporate and to develop cooperative play, persistence, fine motor skills, and a sense of accomplishment!

I am an educator servicing a Title I funded preschool in southern Alabama. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I often watch my students arrive at the beginning of the school year as “blank slates”. For the majority of my students, this will be their first year in a school setting, exploring and overcoming challenges not only inside the classroom but outside the classroom as well. We will spend this academic school year learning the foundation of knowledge and skills they will need as they move forward throughout their educational career.
"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn."As a result, exposing my students to various forms of interactive learning will allow them to explore various educational interventions through hands-on activities that will ideally help foster their academic success and their ability to become prominent influential members of society.
LEGO bricks are a childhood classic. The skills children learn from LEGO bricks are wide-ranging and all the students have to do is play.
In preschool, students think it is just playing, but as educators, the value presented like cooperative play, solving puzzles, engineering, and creativity make LEGO bricks one of the best learning tools!
My students will benefit from the LEGO kits. The 'Build Me Emotions kit will provide my students with the opportunity to explore emotions and physical characteristics, collaborate on a range of character building experiences, as they recognize feelings and identify similarities and differences. The building cards included will provide support and inspiration so my students can continue to build and rebuild characters again and again.
In Our Town, there are different urban environments to explore. Each scene will provide an opportunity to create, collaborate, and discover what it means to work and play together.
With the Cafe', Math Train, and Animal Bingo my students will be easily stimulated to play and collaborate as they construct various food items and learn to sort, count, match, and pattern. The menu and recipe cards, inspire language and role-play around restaurants, shopping, and people’s needs. My students will naturally practice basic math as they play with the Animal Bingo and Math Train set.
The funding of my project will provide my students with a wide range of skills and spark their interest as they are engaged in constructive play.
