Developing Performers in Need of Contemporary, Engaging Scripts!
My students need quality, contemporary script choices to practice performance skills through solo, pair, and group scenes. Help us build a classroom library to inspire, engage, and motivate these budding performers!
Creative, accepting, playful, spontaneous, and energetic. All of these words describe the wonderful young teens that I am lucky enough to spend 90 minutes with daily. As their "teacher" I provide the safe environment and tools to express their ideas through drama.
Theater kids put the "A" in STEAM-based learning at our school!
Studies repeatedly show the importance of arts integration in the curriculum. Middle school aged students particularly benefit from expressing themselves through the arts. Our drama class allows students to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their surrounding environment through movement, collaboration, and focus.
My Project
My theater students need access to more examples of quality and contemporary plays in order to gain more performance and writing practice. Due to copyright policies and performance royalty fees, getting scripts into the hands of our fledgling theater department is an expensive endeavor.
Having access to a classroom library of books with plays, scenes and monologues that are both engaging and relevant to middle school students will help students practice performance skills and analyze plot development.
Research shows that students who participate in performing arts develop stronger communication, empathy, and speech skills than those who do not. Please consider helping fund phase 1 of our theater classroom library.
