My Students

This year our school is working to show each student that s/he is a reader and writer. Over 90% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. For many of our students, school provides a consistent structure and provides them opportunities and experiences they otherwise might not have.

For many of our students, school is the first place where students come to love a book for the first time or even hold a book for the first time!

We firmly believe our school must have classroom environments that promote this love of literacy in both reading and writing! Classrooms must have excellent classroom libraries and writing areas that invite students to read, write, and create.

My Project

Our students are developing into voracious readers and writers. We would like these high-interest book titles to create strong classroom libraries for kindergarten through fourth grades students. Further, we would like the writing center materials to create hands-on access for our blossoming writers.

Our students need immediate access to engaging titles and materials that allow them to create.

These titles will be used for students to "book shop" to add books to their reading baskets. These books will be used for fluency exercises, as well. Our goal is to select multiple books that match each of our readers. By doing so, we hope to develop life-long readers.

Research shows that to develop into strong readers, students must have access to books and read for a high volume of time. While some students may have these opportunities elsewhere, for a lot of our students, school is the place to provide these.
