My students need access to a white board in order to demonstrate their mathematical expertise to their peers and their instructor.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Increased class sizes and cuts in funding are now a reality for my Algebra 2 classroom. With the average class size looking to be over 30 individuals, it is ever more imperative that the students have all of the materials they need in order to access the content.
Many of our students are English language learners and throughout the course of their time at the high school have enough support and challenge to be able to complete all of their A-G course requirements, apply, and get accepted to 4-year colleges.
They are from low-income families who advocated for their kids to come to our public charter school. Our students face many more obstacles but still work hard to get access to all that for other Americans comes so much more easily.
My Project
With a new reversible white board, my students will be able to practice a wider variety of activities outside of their seat in such a way that they can demonstrate their learning publicly. Since the board is reversible, we can have team competitions with one team working on either side to solve math problems. We can have the students become teachers by having a small group work around the portable whiteboard while one or two students explain. We can even use the board as a lasting reference throughout the day so that students can check back to see if they missed something.
Among students whose parents lack higher education, taking advanced math courses in high school more than doubles their own chances of attending college.
Something as simple as a new surface to write on can make this statistic a reality for my students. Algebra 2 is a gateway class to college, and with the materials necessary for practice and learning, 130 students this year alone will be impacted by your donation.
