Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All of my students are English language learners trying to change the statistical odds and demonstrate that they can make a difference in the world regardless of their challenges. The population of our school is majority Hispanics and the mobility rate is quite high, since majority of the homes they live in are trailer homes or apartments.
However, even though our students may be faced with poverty, instability, and other difficult issues, they never let the light inside them stop shining.
As their teacher, it has been such a powerful and rewarding experience to see my students conquer their challenges head on and demonstrate that they can excel academically despite their circumstances.
My Project
I would like these I - M leveled readers in Spanish because these books are the levels second graders should be reading in at the time they attend second grade. I feel like the books provided through this company are authentic books with a good story plot or information that is interesting to kids their age.
I have noticed a lot of the time leveled readers lack a good story plot or can be very dull and make reading more of a job, rather than giving them the opportunity to read for enjoyment.
I think this publishing company does a great job for students to develop a love for reading without realizing it is actually a leveled text.
