Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hard-working, kind, and resilient. Despite living in a community where violence and poverty are part of daily life, they come to school excited to learn every day.

They learn best when they are engaged in hands-on and discovery-based learning.

My goal is to create an environment where they can develop a sense of agency and take ownership of their learning.

All of my students are English Language Learners who care deeply about each other and their education.

My Project

These book bins will be used to make a leveled library. The library that I inherited is unorganized and difficult to maneuver for my students. Different colors will correspond with different reading levels so students can make choices independently and take ownership of their learning.

Another aspect of our leveled library has to do with goal-setting.

All students will know their level, and their goal! The bins will motivate students to practice reading so they can read other neat books in the higher level bins. They will know they have reached their reading goals when they get to choose books from another bin.
