My Students

My kindergarteners come to me with a variety of stories and backgrounds, but one thing remains the same, this is their first real introduction to school. It is my goal every year to create a classroom environment where my students feel at home.

My students are a diverse group of kids that come with a variety of languages, cultural differences, and academic backgrounds.

For some this is their first time in any school setting, while others are preschool veterans. Some have never held a book in their hands or had to let other speak first. The beautiful thing about kindergarten is that no matter your background, we are all starting school together.

My Project

The classroom rug is a tool that can be used in a variety of ways. The rug is a learning tool, a place for team activities, and academic instruction. The most important thing a classroom rug can provide, however, is a place for our group to come together. We laugh at the rug, we learn, we share stories and successes and we also learn about ourselves and others in this space. The classroom rug is truly the home to where our school family begins to form and take shape.

Kindergarten is the foundation of a student's entire academic career.

I do not take that knowledge lightly. By creating a warmer and more homey environment for my students to build that foundation I can start their academic careers on the right path.
