Developing a Love of Reading Through Chosen Novels
My students need brand new, high-interest books for their independent reading requirements. My students are challenged to read TEN books this year, so it's important that we have a vast classroom library to make this possible!

My Students
Over 130 students step into the walls of my classroom every day, looking for a safe place to be themselves. They need a place where they can grow both emotionally and intellectually in a welcoming and positive environment. My kids come from many different socioeconomic backgrounds, living situations, family systems, and cultures.
It is crucial that everyone feel accepted, that we put ourselves in one another's shoes and refrain from judgment, and to make the world a better place for everyone.
My Project
My students know that I am obsessed with books and coffee. They know that from day one of school they're going to be challenged to read more than they ever have before. This year, they're challenged to read at least 10 novels from varying genres and to document their reading. This, at the beginning of the year, seemed like an unattainable, overwhelming goal to most. But now, students are crushing that goal and are truly identifying themselves as readers.
It is my dream to have books covering every available wall space in my classroom so that every student in my class can find a book he/she can connect to, fall in love with, to develop a love of reading.
Even my resistant readers are finding books they enjoy thanks to the generosity of donors who have helped fill our shelves. But every month new books come out, my request list gets longer, and my students are looking for new books. This project seeks to bring new, high-interest, relevant to 8th grade lives, books into our classroom this spring. They will be checked out, brought home, read, devoured, loved, shared, returned, and passed along to the next student to repeat.
