Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low-income households and do not have access to a lot of normal things. They possess the willingness to learn but lack the resources to learn. They are spirited and hard working.
I try to do what I can for my students but I can only do so much.
I want my students to have access to as many resources as possible to ensure that they are successful. I want to help and do as much as I can to ensure their success.
My Project
For a majority of my low-income students, reading only occurs at school. I feel if I can help develop a love for reading then they will read at home and enjoy it. The books will open up a different world for them and we all need an escape every now and then. I hope that by reading the selected books that they will learn something from each book that they can utilize in their life. I also hope that by reading the selected books that it will help build their comprehensive and fluency skills. Reading is always better when you are able to comprehend and understand what it is that you are reading. Fluency will improve by reading with correct intonation and punctuation. When we read the same as we speak, the words are easier to understand. No one talks in a monotone but in phrases so that they are understood and this is the lesson that will be stressed during read alouds with the selected books.
