Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of amazing students who are, daily, pushing through poverty and stereotypes that come along with attending an inner city high poverty public school in Indiana. Many of my students live with guardians who work insane hours for low-pay and have little time to spend with their children. This makes my opportunity to teach my students SO important and makes it easier to set high expectations in the classroom.
Every day they shout, "I am capable of more than I can even fathom" then proceed to show it in their actions and their classwork.
My students work hard to identify then overcome all obstacles in their way while exceeding the expectations they set for themselves, the expectations set for them by others, and the high expectations that I hold them to.
My Project
Quite a few of my students have not been given skills to help calm their anger issues. Because of this, disruptions are caused in the classroom and these students are unable to be their best self.
By creating an after school yoga club students will be able to equip themselves with the tools they need to begin to control their thoughts and emotions.
Students must learn self care techniques in order to function to their fullest potential at school. Our school's yoga club will enable our students to do just that through learning breathing techniques and performing asanas. The mats will be used to practice the poses on, and the blocks will be used to modify poses for students that need more assistance. We will be able to help students not just get an excellent education but also be successful adults.
