Ms. Robinson from Miami FL is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need round-trip airfare from Miami to Boston.

For many students, there is a disconnect between a tangible understanding of the vast opportunities that would be opened to them with a college education and their reality as a high school student living in a low-income community.
My students are incredibly talented.
They are artists, authors, poets, musicians, dreamers, engineers, and business people, and they show me these skills on a daily basis. However, for many of these amazing young people who enter the classroom every day, college is an unknown entity. It is something they have been told they must aspire to; but somewhere, the why and the how of achieving this goal have been lost. For some, college just means more school, more dealing with teachers who give work. For some students, funding is also an insurmountable obstacle. How do you even pay for college? Who gets scholarships? And for many, their knowledge of options for college ends at the borders of don't County. They want to go somewhere outside of Florida, but don'ÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂt know much about the various choices available.
Through the College Readiness Club, my students will take part in a 5 day, 4 night trip to Boston, the quintessential college city. From the prestige of Harvard to the cooperative education program of Northeastern to the musical powerhouse that is Boston, they will experience a variety of campuses. They will partake in informational sessions, campus tours, and interact with college students. Through this trip, college will become a more tangible goal. Additionally, Boston's history, culture, architecture, and weather differ so markedly from Miami that the trip will further serve as a platform to expose students to a different lifestyle from their own.
Last year, 20 club members received funding to expand their horizons by exploring Boston for the first time.
They returned with pictures, stories, memories and a new found motivation for achieving their post-graduate goals. By funding this year's trip, you will ensure that another group of incredibly talented students have this same experience.
