Help me give my students these Chromebooks for Remote & Hybrid Learning so that they may have working technology with a camera, microphone and internet connection
I have worked in the same school district for the past 26 years. I am always amazed at the unbelievable students I am blessed with every year. Many of my students come from inner-city, low-income families who often have difficulty purchasing the bare necessities for success. Although they face many obstacles on a daily basis, they still come to school every day with a desire to learn. New technology excites them and motivates them to excel. I try to give them as much as I can. Unfortunately, our budget/funding supply has been reduced again this year. I try to do everything I can to make sure that my students have the necessary tools for success, but at times it is quite a large burden to bear.
People often look at me and tell me that I am crazy for teaching middle school, but there is nowhere else I would rather be and no age group that I would rather teach.
I love them! My students are always eager to try new things and connect what we are learning to the real world.
My Project
The Corona virus pandemic has affected my students in so many ways - academically, socially and financially. Many had no technology at home when we quickly swapped to remote learning last spring. Our school district scrambled and did its best to get technology in the hands of our students, but that often meant one device for a family of 3 or 4 students.
We are currently doing remote/hybrid learning and my students need to have current, working technology in order to be successful.
We have daily Google Meets and they need to be able to log on with a working camera and microphone in order to receive instruction, participate in lessons and thrive academically. If they can not actively engage in their education with me and their peers, they are not going to be successful. At the moment I know that I will not have more than 20 students at a time in my room, so this set of laptops will be exactly what they need.
If one of my students does not have the needed technology at home they can sign out one of these laptops so that they have what they need to be successful while we are not in the school building. While we are hybrid and in the building, this class set will allow my classroom to have full connectivity with working cameras and microphones for full class participation.
