This year I will be teaching 4th grade in a school in which resources are at a minimum. Last year I taught 3rd grade in this same school. I personally bought whatever I could to make certain that I had everything I needed to ensure that my children would have all their learning resources, whether books or supplies. Whether it's reading, writing, math or test preparation, our lessons always start off with a mini-lesson on the skills and strategies each student needs to succeed in the specific content area. I have always felt that the use of an overhead is a crucial tool in education. In reading it allows my class to view examples of wonderful text by exemplary authors and is a simple, cost-effective way to bring images to life for students. In writing and math it allows us to work interactively in small group to create class texts and share the work of others. The curiculum in fourth grade is even more demanding than third. Beside the pressure of meeting the reading and writing standards, social studies plays a tremendous role in our curriculum. To be able to share transparencies of primary and secondary documents would be a tremendous tool. Well, there's good news and bad news. First the good news -- I already have the projector. The bad news is that I desperately need a pull-down projector screen for my classroom. I would be so extremely grateful if I were to be provided with this essential classroom tool.
