Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fifth grade bilingual teacher in East New York. About 98% of our students receive free lunch, which means that their income is below the poverty line. The majority of the students in our school are below grade level. However, they are eager to come to school and learn. They are highly motivated and want to learn despite the many difficulties that surround them. Currently I am teaching in Social Studies, about maps, landforms, people and heroes of long ago, and about the United States. Unfortunately, it is difficult for my students to have a concept without hands-on materials. My school has low resources and we do not even have social studies textbooks. I would like to be able to have the resources to teach them and give them the education they deserve. I would like to have a social studies kit that would enable me to visually teach them. Lakeshore offers Social Studies Resource Boxes. The Boxes feature materials for each topic. The boxes are filled with engaging hands-on social studies lessons that also integrate reading and writing. The boxes also feature realistic props that give students a tactile and visual sense of important topics- from a replica of the Liberty Bell to an authentically detailed totem pole. It would be a wonderful addition to my classroom and would help my students tremendously. It would be greatly appreciated if you could fund this item for my students.
