My Students

My students are THE BEST! We have such a positive and close relationship built. These past few years have been especially difficult for my students. COVID, family circumstances, instability, financial concerns, moves, and added responsibility at home have all contributed in some way or another to increased stress on my students. We are a Title 1 school and most of my students do not come to school with adequate supplies. With the emphasis on a blended learning environment to allow students quarantining to maintain access to our instruction and activities, I have noticed that many of my students do not have headphones. I started out with a class set, but they have mostly been broken or stolen. Some of our curriculum is online, so it is imperative that all students have headphones to be able to listen to videos or texts read aloud on their Chromebooks. Another school supply that students never seem to have is pencils! Long ago I decided to never pick the "pencil fight". If a student doesn't have a pencil, I just give them one of mine. No questions asked! I can never have enough pencils!!

My Project

The hand sanitizer is needed to combat germs (COVID included). I greet students at the door and sanitize their hands as they enter. Students need pencils to engage in learning activities. The headphones are particularly helpful in academic learning activities during the pandemic. We have been strongly encouraged to move to blended/hybrid classrooms to allow students who stay at home, for whatever reason, to continue to participate in our class. I anticipate allowing students to checkout the headphones if they know they will be learning at home. I also know that having a class set of headphones will allow ALL my students to engage in learning activities on their Chromebooks.
