Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been working as a teacher in the Camden, New Jersey school district for twenty plus years teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students who are educationally challenged.
Our students are faced with a number of problems each day.
42% of them live below the poverty level. Coming to school has been a safe, loving and warm environment for them. They have been accustomed to lacking the things at home and because of the budget cuts, once again they are feeling the lack of materials they need at school. This school year our school budget has been cut substantially making it difficult to get the supplies and equipment we need for my students.
My class is in desperate need of school supplies such as pencils, dry erase markers, tissues, notebooks, etc.
My Project
My class needs basic everyday school supplies. Unfortunately, they do not always have the materials they need to be successful and school supplies are very expensive for most parents. Let's help our families!
My students need Kleenex tissues, Elmer's glue sticks, Lysol wipes, Astrobrights construction paper, pencils, Mead composition notebooks, dry erase markers, and an X-ACTO electric pencil sharpener.
We use our whiteboards and dry erase markers daily to complete our interactive math lessons as well as take notes using pencils and erasers in our organized notebooks.
With these new school supplies, my students will be able to continue to grow and learn and be productive citizens.
