Understanding the world is a difficult task! Students must be prepared to enter into it, become productive and successful citizens, and develop society. Introducing them to dystopian literature not only invigorates their interest in reading, it helps them decide what they want the world to be!
My students belong to an urban district in Indiana.
They are intrigued by matters of the world and love learning about other societies. Our school is full of teachers who care and want to engage students in their education; we strive to find literature and activities which are relevant and interesting to our students.
My Project
Not only will my students be engaged in the novels, the stories will help them develop their critical thinking skills. We will also be able to engage in activities to involve students in their community in projects they deem necessary based on our study of dystopian societies. Furthermore, "The Looking Glass Wars" is a novel based on Alice in Wonderland, a classic story most students already know, and provides an interesting twist in perspective that students will adore. "Ender's Game" is a long-loved science fiction triumph; coming-of-age stories always appeal to students, especially when the odds are long!
In an urban district, it is vital to find ways to engage and develop students to be the best possible citizens they can be.
Reading is a vital skill to success in life, and topics such as dystopian societies evoke thoughts, feelings, and opinions which help develop students' minds and values.
