This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a safe haven, a place where kids can work toward a common goal. Our students need somewhere safe to be, a place off of the tough, local streets. Kids learn commitment, teamwork, and pride, as well as academic skills.
I am the 7-12 Chorus teacher and Theater teacher.
Our students are vibrant and love to be the center of attention. All of the students in our school get a free breakfast and lunch, and there are after-school activities that serve extra meals so kids don't go hungry.
However, our budget is non-existent. Our building is old and hasn't been updated much since it was originally built in the early 1900s. Sounds like a great place for modern learners, right?
My Project
My room is a little chaotic. We're doing this project of creating costumes out of recycled materials. The kids are so excited and some have told me that they only came to school today to work on this. However, having lots of materials in my room all over the place is making it look bad and it's stressful for the students to not find things, for me to have feather bits flying around and for the custodians who are kind enough to vaccuum every day around scraps of fabric.
With these storage cubes and bins, I can keep the fabric and materials in bins that are easily accessible to see what we've got and easy to use, so things can be put away quickly and neatly.
The essential oil diffusers are good for large rooms so I can diffuse oils like lavander and Four Thieves to keep my room fresh and germ free. My pencil sharpener has recently been sounding like it's on it's last grinding legs, so this would be used as well.
