Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students consist of 20 four year olds eager and ready to learn. Although my students are young, they need to be ready for academically for all years to come. The Waterford SmartStart online program will allow my students to reach their goals.
My school is located in an affluent neighborhood, yet not all of my students have access to the technology that is so needed in today's world.
The students in my prekindergarten classroom come from varying backgrounds both culturally and economically. Why not start in the prekindergarten classroom? Technology proficiency is the key to the future!
My Project
Our school district has begun using Waterford's SmartStart, an adaptive online learning software designed for four-year-olds. This program includes everything that is needed to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum for our Pre-K clasrrom. Waterford's SmartStart is a personalized learning software that adjusts to each child's pace and level, making it ideal for all young learners.
My students are in need of a classroom computer in order to meet their academic needs using the Waterford SmartStart program.
This program addresses early reading, math, science, and social studies concepts as well as executive function, creative arts, and health and physical development. Its Pre-K models prepare children to enter kindergarten at or above grade level. A classroom computer will make it possible to meet the educational needs of every student in my classroom. In order for Waterford SmartStart to work, students are required to use a computer for fifteen minutes daily during school hours and in some instances at home. Waterford SmartStart will track each child's progress and provide data for the teacher. This data is used to modify lessons and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students. It is also used as a tool to share information with parents.
In order to achieve this, I would need a desktop computer in my classroom. This computer will be used by students to complete their daily task of using the Waterford SmartStart program. Learning begins in early childhood!
