My classroom is filled with diversity. My students come from many different socioeconomic backgrounds, including English language learners, low-income homes, and few learning experiences outside of their neighborhood.
I have a rambunctious group of 5th graders who are eager to learn math.
They have become magicians, super heroes, artists, engineers, and explorers this year as we navigate through fractions, place value, and problem solving. They love to play games, solve puzzles, and find easier and faster ways to tackle the heavy math. Above all, my students believe themselves to be mathematicians.
My Project
Heavy budget cuts have fallen across our entire district this year, and as a result our school has had to make difficult decisions on how to spend our funding. With your generous donation these budget cuts will not directly impact my students.
My classroom desks are slowly falling apart.
The laminate tops on some of them are peeling off, revealing an uneven surface. This makes it difficult for my students to complete their work. Also, many of my fifth graders are too big for the desks that I have.
The desks I chose for this project have a basket underneath so that my students can easily store and access their textbooks and materials while giving them plenty of room to sit comfortably at them.
