My middle school students are the inaugural class of our brand new STEM school. As the first STEM school in rural Stanly County, I am excited to provide my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students the opportunity to learn in a challenging, exciting, stimulating, and interesting atmosphere.
My students will be experiencing Language Arts through engaging, student-centered lessons and projects.
These special students will also be learning critical thinking and problem-solving skills while solving "PBLs" or problem-based learning situations that mimic real-world obstacles.
My Project
I am an ELA teacher at a STEM school. I would like to bring a coffee style seating environment to my classroom... that would involve no conventional desks.
I want to have a non-desk environment so that my students don't feel like they are in a normal classroom, this would have options for my students to either stand up or relax.
I would like to step outside of the normal "bean bags and cushions." Since Starbucks is my favorite "relaxing" place to go when I plan, I want to have a Starbucks style seating arrangement that offers a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere; armchairs, coffee tables, bar chairs, and cafe tables.
I have students that enjoy moving all over the classroom, and this would give them that opportunity to move without bothering anyone.
