This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title 1 school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. We are a newly combined school with 1,100 students. The majority of my students come from neighborhoods that are struck with high poverty. Some of my students are English language learners and some are special education. My students really learn to love school and learning! But many come with challenges. They are below grade level as early as kindergarten. We have a tough job when we have to teach students their names when they don't even know there alphabets but we over come those obstacles with a lot of love, cisalpine and hard work.
My Project
Many of my students come to school with limited to no school supplies, while only a few of my students come to school with all of their supplies. So, you can imagine the challenge of trying to keep everyone's supplies organized and in the "right hands." Often, "yours" versus "mine" becomes a topic of discussion (when it comes the usage or lack of school supplies). I want to provide my students with an organizational system, where they have their very own private pencil pouch spaces.
By supplying each student with a pencil pouch filled with a pair of scissors and erasers each student would have their very own activity supply set!
This will provide more privacy with students who have plenty of supplies vs. students lacking supplies, while preventing the recurring "desk wars".. I want to provide an organizational system that will be optimal to all of my students!
My classroom is not yet at the organizational level to meet all of my students' needs as learners. This grant project will help to close that gap.
