Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hard workers who love to read. They are artists and creatives who need the space to let their imaginations run free in our Language Arts class! My population is diverse, but they are eager to learn and to build a collaborative community.

My Project

My students are kind, generous, and helpful. They often help me with projects and activities around the room. I teach a large and diverse population of English Learners, Special Education, and regular education students. For the holidays, one of my students gifted me a "squishmallow" toy. I put it on the bookshelf for decoration, and it became an instant SENSATION across all classes! Kids argue over who gets to hold it on their desk. It has become a reward. It is my hope that I can provide each student with an individual "desk pet." To promote engagement and investment, each of their "desk pets" can earn stickers and other prizes.

This will inevitably promote engagement, joy, and excitement in the room.

I have also noticed that it helps some of my students with special needs calm down, settle into their routine, and focus on the work.
