My Students
Students are always excited for hands on learning opportunities. Creating these opportunities can sometimes be expensive initially, but completely worth the investment. Students are from varied backgrounds from around the state and chose to come to this school to experience a curriculum rich in experiential learning related to STEM.
One of my class goals is to relate scientific concepts back to the natural environment as much as possible so students are able to recognize the science surrounding them.
This is important for both students continuing to study science but more important for the students who will not be continuing their science education. Providing students with the tools to understand the science around them as well as the human impact on the environment is essential knowledge in today’s world.
My Project
These materials will allow a Flex Friday group of students to build two streamtables to be used in mulitple science classrooms. This Flex Friday group of students is specifically interested in building science equipment to be used in class. The completed tables will then be used by multiple groups of students to design experiments and test their hypotheses for future semesters.
Students in multiple science classes will gain hand on experience by isolating different variables impacting a river system.
They will be able to predict and then observe how a river responds to changing specific variables. This project will benefit students for years to come!
