The excitement keeps building! Thanks to generous donors our library media robotic lessons are a huge success. My students have discovered the world of Coding and Robotics and are insatiable. Students ask daily when we can work on robots. The enthusiasm and love of learning is truly contagious.
We are an inner city magnet school with a theme based on creating our own society.
Many students travel for long periods on a bus to attend our school. Students must enter a lottery and commit to excellence. Our school government and our peacekeepers are run by students who supervise this community as our classrooms turn into ventures twice a week. Ventures range from our Kindergarten Cafe to Museums. Paychecks are earned and spent during Discovery Days at other ventures. We love learning with a passion that keeps us after school at clubs and extra lessons by choice. Our school has a history of excellence, and we will do whatever it takes to provide our students with experiences to increase their love of learning.
My Project
Cubelets come in three categories: sense, think, and act. Each cube has a different capability like a drive motor cube, a battery, or a distance sensor. When the cubes are put together they become something greater. The National Science Foundation has described them as making powerful ideas of computational thinking accessible in a fun and hands-on way for students of all ages. Modular Robotics has created lesson plans to help introduce students to being Robot Investigators. Students would work in groups to solve age appropriate challenges. Cubelets allow students to experiment and create their own unique robot by incorporating Legos into the design. The blocks they combine will determine the behavior of the robot.
In order to spark a love of learning, we must provide all of our students with access to iPads, computers, and coding.
This project will allow my students the opportunity for hands-on robotics across the grade levels. It will encourage creative and critical thinking, teamwork, and be fun!
