We are a Title I school with above 78% poverty level. My students are at three campuses with each campus located in a different county. With few opportunities for employment and opportunities, students will continue to repeat the socioeconomic cycle.
The three schools are very rural and very isolated with little opportunity for cultural exchange. Since each school is in a different county, it is extremely difficult to pull resources and students together. Access to technology and exposure to various career paths will help break the socioeconomic cycle.
My students are not only exceptional, they are the next generation of scientists, doctors, artists, teachers, and engineers and they deserve more things than I can provide to make them successful. They are thinkers, explorers, investigators, creators, writers, actors, journalist, musicians, environmentalist, videographers, photographers, and artist. They have used 3D printing program, but need a 3D printer to print their final draft of the project designed and created. They are dynamic, challenging, bright, and humorous young people. With the proper equipment, they can showcase their talent and abilities.
Students will use this 3D printer to create products they worked together to engineer. The Da Vinci XYZ 2.0 is the exact model used by the local college and students would develop confidence by learning to operate the equipment they will use after they go to college. Students will be able to print a bird feeder and birdhouse they designed for the outdoor classroom.
In Their Own Words
Our class has been learning to computer code. We also used tinker cad to build it and want to print it to see if we did it right. If it works, we will design and engineer things for our outdoor classroom schoolyard habitat areas such as birdhouse and bird feeder.
In our class, we will take turns printing the stuff we design. We will design stuff for other projects. We will learn how to operate the 3D printer and teach others how to use it. We have to use our math and science skills to create objects like the birdhouse to print.
Other schools in our area have 3D printers and we don't know what they are talking about because we don't have one to print with. We can print parts to use on building a robot. The possibilities are endless, but first, we must use one to know what problems we can solve with it. We would like to print a bird feeder and birdhouse for our outdoor classroom.
