Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Look around my classroom you will see an amazing diversity of ethnic groups and economic backgrounds. Despite their diversity, their is one quality that all my students share. That is regardless of their background, they come to my class motivated and excited to learn new ideas and concepts.
They have a natural desire to build and create especially in the area of technology.
The magnet that we belong to is an Arts and Technology magnet so there is a special interest in both of these subjects. This is evident in the look of excitement on their faces any time they have the opportunity to see and learn about anything new in technology.
It is my hope to make this a more "tangible" experience for them.
My Project
Our goal with getting a VEX robot was to start up a robot club. We now have only one dedicated to our club but so many more students are showing interest. It would help so much if I could get another so I won't have to turn away students who are interested in this exciting program.
With this kit, students will will be able to create, design, and build their own robots.
The possibilities are endless. Students are only restricted by how far their imagination will take them.
The ability to program and see it put into action almost immediately with their own robot, inspires and motivates the students.
Paired with a computer, the students will be able to program and code their robot to perform specific tasks.
The long term goal for this program is that with practice students will be able to create a club and possibly compete against other schools in robotics competition. The cooperative learning needed to work in a team is another benefit of this program.
