Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the first time you saw your work showcased as an outstanding example? Did it boost your interest in that class and in attending school? Some kids need to see how great their achievements are and providing these materials will do just that for some very at risk kids!
My students are 95% free and reduced lunch and 95% minority.
My school has a extended school day to help raise achievement. Students work very hard in their Common Core classes trying to close the achievement gap. Which makes them truly love their graphic design and photography class because they learn new technology and are able to express themselves.
My Project
We have several community art shows planned where we will display their work. The students are learning how to use complex design programs and photography equipment, but we have no resources to display their work with. We will use the provided mats, mat board and tape to mat student work for hanging. The card stock and photo paper will be used for printing artwork. Imagine their delight and pride when they see their professional work hanging in art shows around the community.
By displaying student work, students will realize that their hard work means something and what they do does matter.
Seeing everything they do on a computer screen and not having the ability to see printed product takes a whole step out of the design process, that step being presenting their work. Whoever sponsors this project will enable my students to work as artists through every stage of design!
