Our school strives to find leaders and great great mindsets with all students. Every child has capabilities, talents and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure. The students in my class strive to do their best. They all inherently care about one another through collaboration and may an effort to improve in individually and socially.
My class consists of 30 amazing students.
Of those 30, eight are English learners, two receives resource services, one is in speech, and two are autistic. This adds many challenges and also many rewards for both myself and my students. It is my hope that when a child comes out of my classroom, they know how to learn, help each other, and feel loved.
My Project
I took a STEM class this summer where I learned how to make density bottles using the SEED phenomenon. It is great because the students have to experiment to determine how much salt is added in order to take the water out of the alcohol.
As you add salt to the bottles, the beads start to float up, it looks like they are defying gravity!
As students add more and more salt, the UV beads will float to the top, while the others sink to the bottom. Eventually, the density will even out with enough salt so that after shaking the bottle, the beads will all float to the middle of the bottle. It's a great hands on approach to science. Don't forget the goggles, safety first in the classroom!
